Musk’s xAI Files Antitrust Lawsuit Against Apple & OpenAI
Anime & AI News
Elon Musk’s xAI has filed a federal antitrust lawsuit in Texas against Apple and OpenAI, accusing them of conspiring to suppress competition in the artificial intelligence sector. The complaint alleges that Apple’s exclusive integration of ChatGPT into iOS, iPadOS, and macOS unfairly blocks exposure for rivals, such as xAI’s Grok app, despite its strong user reviews. xAI seeks billions in damages, arguing Apple and OpenAI have “locked up markets” to preserve monopolies. OpenAI dismissed the filing as harassment, while Apple declined to comment on the matter. Legal experts suggest that Apple’s dominance in smartphones could bolster xAI’s claims, although Apple may argue on grounds of security and business for its OpenAI partnership. The case could mark a key test in defining AI’s market boundaries within U.S. antitrust law and its application to emerging AI platforms.
