Jay Clayton Named White House AI Czar

Donald Trump has named Jay Clayton, the director of national intelligence, as the new White House AI czar and chair of a newly created Super Intelligence Force. Clayton already oversees the United States intelligence community and previously led the Securities and Exchange Commission. During his confirmation hearing, he described AI as both a game-changer and a threat. The new task force is intended to coordinate federal engagement with consumers, public interest groups, critical infrastructure providers and AI companies. Senator Mark Warner cautiously welcomed the appointment while calling for stronger testing, security and safeguards around advanced systems. Clayton replaces the earlier AI and cryptocurrency czar structure led by David Sacks, who left that special government employee role in March 2026.
