DoorDash Unveils Cute Candy-Red Dot For Food Delivery

DoorDash has unveiled Dot, its first commercial autonomous delivery robot, which was developed in-house by DoorDash Labs. Purpose-built for local commerce, Dot can navigate bike lanes, sidewalks, driveways, and roads at speeds up to 20 mph, offering a safer, smaller, and more sustainable alternative to cars for short neighborhood trips. Integrated with DoorDash’s new Autonomous Delivery Platform, Dot works alongside Dashers, drones, and other methods, with AI dispatching the most efficient option for each order. The pilot begins in Tempe and Mesa, Arizona, marking the first step toward wider rollout. Dot aims to reduce traffic congestion, cut emissions, and improve delivery reliability while enabling Dashers to focus on higher-value orders. DoorDash emphasizes a hybrid human–autonomous approach to support merchants, consumers, and local economies.
