Anime & AI News

Japan’s anime industry reached a record high in 2024, with revenues climbing by about 14.8 percent to roughly US$25 billion (JPY 3.8 trillion), according to data cited by the Hollywood Reporter. Much of the growth was driven by overseas sales, licensing, streaming, and merchandise. Industry analysts say that as global demand for anime grows, Japanese studios are increasingly reliant on foreign markets. However, production bottlenecks remain a challenge, including tight schedules and high costs. The milestone highlights anime’s transition from a niche cultural export to a global media business. Japanese firms are now focusing on scaling IP, streamlining distribution, and leveraging overseas partnerships to sustain this momentum.
