Apple Confirms Gemini Will Power Siri’s Long-Awaited AI Reboot

Apple has officially confirmed that Google’s Gemini will power the next generation of Siri, marking the assistant’s most significant overhaul since launch. After evaluating multiple options, Apple selected Google’s technology as the foundation for its future Apple Foundation Models. The decision follows delays to Apple’s promised AI upgrades, first previewed at WWDC 2024, as competitors like Gemini and ChatGPT have advanced rapidly. Integrating Gemini gives Apple access to a more capable language model and Google’s continuously updated knowledge base, addressing long-standing weaknesses in Siri’s conversational abilities. The upgraded Siri is expected to launch later this year with iOS 26.4. Apple says existing ChatGPT integration will remain for some complex tasks, though the long-term relationship between the systems remains unclear.
