Sonos 27 Opens Speakers to ChatGPT and Custom AI Agents

Sonos has announced Sonos 27, a rebranded operating system and refreshed app that place artificial intelligence at the center of its speaker ecosystem. The rollout begins September 8. Sonos 27voice is an opt-in in-house assistant for music and mood control arriving in early access this fall. Sonos 27mcp will let third-party assistants, including ChatGPT, control music and compatible speakers directly, with early access beginning next week. A later Custom Agents feature will allow users to create up to ten assistants with distinct voices, personalities and household roles extending beyond media playback. The base software supports Sonos S2 products, while features such as portable surrounds and headphone linking require specific hardware. Broader custom-agent functions remain a preview targeted for 2027.
