Tokyo Film Festival Reveals Seven Anime Films

The Tokyo International Film Festival has announced seven anime films for its 2026 Animation Section and Women Directors: Diverse Visions program. The main Animation Section includes Cherry and Virgin, Ghost – End of Night, Grotesqqque and We Are Aliens, alongside the Japanese premiere of DreamWorks’ Forgotten Island. Three additional anime selections appear in the women directors program: Detective Conan: The Fist of Blue Sapphire, Gold Kingdom and Water Kingdom, and The Rose of Versailles. The 39th festival runs across Tokyo from October 26 through November 4, with most screenings offering English subtitles. Godzilla Minus Zero serves as the centrepiece film, while Sukiyaki opens the event and Colony closes it. The announced lineup places new and returning animation alongside a broader international selection of cinema.
