The candle flickered as the storm whispered against the windows of the scriptorium. Arlen sat alone at the desk, surrounded by scrolls older than memory. His hand hovered above the parchment, but it was not his to guide.

The quill floated.

It shimmered with a soft blue glow, suspended in the air like a thought not yet spoken. Sparks danced from its tip, and wherever it touched the parchment, words bloomed, not in ink, but in light.

Arlen had found it buried beneath the ruins of the old academy, sealed in a box marked with runes he could barely translate. Only truth may wield me, the inscription had said.

He had tried writing with it. Nothing happened.

But when he spoke aloud the story of his sister lost to the war, forgotten by the crown, the quill stirred. It wrote her name. Her deeds. Her sacrifice. And when he finished, the parchment glowed, then vanished.

The next morning, his sister’s name appeared in the royal archives.

Now, Arlen understood. The quill had rewritten known history.

He leaned forward, voice steady.

“This is the tale of a kingdom betrayed. Of a tyrant cloaked in gold. Of a rebellion born in silence.”

The quill began to write.
