🐎 The Charge
The sun dipped low over La Mancha, painting the hills in fire and gold. Windmills turned lazily in the distance, their wooden arms creaking in the breeze. To most, they were simple machines. To Don Quixote, they were giants.
He sat tall in the saddle, armor gleaming despite its dents and age. His lance pointed forward, steady in his grip. Rocinante, his faithful horse, pawed the ground, sensing the charge to come.
“Sancho,” he said, voice firm, “the beasts await. Their tyranny ends today.”
Sancho Panza, ever loyal and ever skeptical, squinted at the windmills. “They’re windmills, master. Just windmills.”
But Don Quixote saw more. He saw injustice towering in the fields. He saw a knight’s duty etched into the sky. And so, with a cry that echoed across the valley, he spurred Rocinante forward.
The ground trembled beneath them. Dust rose in their wake. The lance lowered. The windmill turned.
And then, the clash.
Wood splintered. Quixote flew. The world spun.
When he awoke, the sky was darker, the wind softer. Sancho stood over him, shaking his head.
“You fought bravely,” Sancho said.
Don Quixote smiled through the pain. “Then it was worth it.”
In that moment, the world was not broken. It was noble. And the knight, though battered, remained unshaken.
