Anime & AI News

OpenAI has reportedly acquired smartphone camera technology company Glass Imaging in a deal worth more than $300 million. Glass Imaging was founded in 2019 by Ziv Attar and Tom Bishop, former Apple engineers who helped lead development of the iPhone’s Portrait Mode. The Los Altos company had previously raised about $30 million from investors while developing computational photography technology for mobile devices. The purchase would give OpenAI a team with deep experience combining camera hardware, image processing, and machine learning. It also points toward growing interest in how artificial intelligence can interact with visual information captured by consumer devices. The transaction was reported by The Wall Street Journal, and its value makes it a notable expansion of OpenAI’s work beyond software models.
