Spider-Shaped Bot Charlotte Can Build A House In One Day
Anime & AI News
Charlotte, a six-legged construction robot from Crest Robotics, was unveiled at the International Astronautical Congress in Sydney, promising to build a 200-square-meter home shell in 24 hours, compared to the 100 bricklayers it would typically require. Instead of concrete extrusion, Charlotte uses Earthbuilt Technology’s cement-free method, which involves compacting local aggregates or waste materials into fabric sleeves for layered walls. This reduces carbon footprint, transportation needs, and costs, while offering fire and flood resistance; however, independent testing is pending. The hexapod design provides stability and mobility on uneven terrain, eliminating the need for gantry systems. While still a prototype, Charlotte could aid housing crises and even future lunar habitats by working with in-situ materials. However, key technical specs, certifications, and durability tests remain undisclosed, leaving real-world deployment years away.
