OpenAI and Japan’s Digital Agency Announce Strategic Collaboration

OpenAI and Japan’s Digital Agency announced a strategic collaboration to advance the safe and effective use of generative AI in public services. As part of the partnership, Japan’s Digital Agency will introduce Gennai, an OpenAI-powered tool, to government employees to support innovative public sector applications. The initiative aligns with Japan’s leadership in global AI governance, including the OECD and G7-backed Hiroshima AI Process, which established the first international policy framework for safe, secure, and trustworthy AI. OpenAI’s involvement aims to expand governance discussions beyond the G7 to Asia and emerging economies. Additionally, OpenAI will explore ISMAP certification to strengthen secure government AI adoption. The partnership underscores commitments to safety, transparency, and inclusive international cooperation in the integration of AI.
