ChatGPT To Go 18+ Treating Adults Like Adults

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman announced upcoming changes to ChatGPT, aiming to restore user freedom while maintaining safeguards around mental health and age-appropriate use. Altman explained that ChatGPT had been deliberately restrictive to prevent harm. Still, new safety tools now allow for more flexibility. A new version will let users customize the AI’s personality, with options to make it more expressive, emotional, or friendly, similar to GPT-4o’s style. Starting in December, verified adult users will have expanded creative freedom, including access to mature content, while teen users will continue to be protected under strict guidelines. Altman emphasized OpenAI’s principle to “treat adults like adults,” while ensuring that no content that causes harm or undermines user well-being will be permitted.
