Apple Watch AI Listening Features Raise Privacy Questions

Apple’s new Watch features push ambient AI listening further into everyday life and raise questions about privacy, consent, and social behavior. Audio Intelligence can recognize sounds such as alarms and sirens, while Live Rewind can produce a transcript of the previous 15 seconds after the wearer activates it. Siri Recap can create high-level notes from conversations for later review. Apple says it does not create or store raw audio recordings, processes relevant audio on device, and protects generated notes and transcripts with end-to-end encryption. The features can be disabled and Siri Recap does not have to run continuously. Even with those safeguards, subtle recording from a wrist device could change how people behave around wearers and create legal questions about consent, authentication, and use of text-only records.
