Goodbye, Lara Composer Explores Music as Worldbuilding

Anime & AI News

Composer Yuma Yamaguchi has discussed how the soundtrack for Goodbye, Lara was developed alongside the anime’s visual storytelling. Working closely with director Takushi Koide, he built the music around an orchestral foundation enriched by contemporary harmony and electronic textures. Their collaboration included late-night studio discussions and sessions at Kinema Citrus, with individual scenes shaping the evolving score. The first piece, written for Lara’s arrival from Lake Biwa, was rearranged to better express the moment, while its original version found another place in the series. The soundtrack was released on September 30, featuring some longer compositions than those heard in the anime. Yamaguchi also revealed that his daughter sings on the album version of “two horizons”.
