Meta Releases Muse Spark Open for Coding and Local Computing

Meta has launched Muse Spark Open, an open-weight artificial intelligence model for coding, agentic workflows, and multi-step reasoning. AI chief Alexandr Wang describes it as the most capable American open-weight model yet, claiming it competes with leading Chinese systems from Alibaba, Moonshot AI, and Z.ai. Unlike proprietary models that remain under provider control, developers can download and adapt its released model weights. Meta says safeguards are built into the system and highlights the complex software engineering behind its intended uses. The company also worked with Apple to optimise the model for M5 Ultra processors. Meta says a pair of suitably equipped Mac Studios can run the model locally, although the hardware requirements remain substantial.
