OpenAI Acquires Biotech Agent Startup Orchestra Bio
Anime & AI News
OpenAI has acquired Orchestra Bio, a four-year-old startup developing AI agents for biotechnology operations, as it expands its life sciences business. Announced on October 20, the acquisition’s financial terms were not disclosed. Orchestra’s software helps biotech companies handle drug-discovery administration, including financial tracking and clinical trial scheduling. The startup had reportedly raised around $20 million by 2025 from investors including Andreessen Horowitz, Atria, and 8VC. OpenAI will absorb and integrate Orchestra’s team and technology into Rosalind, its life sciences AI model, and Rosalind Workbench, which supports experimental planning and results analysis. OpenAI has already identified Moderna and Novo Nordisk as Rosalind customers. The deal reflects growing competition as major AI developers build specialised software for pharmaceutical and other established industries.
