OpenAI Appeals For Chips Act Tax Credit To Boost AI Infrastructure
Anime & AI News

OpenAI Chief Executive Sam Altman reaffirmed the company’s call for the U.S. to expand the CHIPS Act tax credit to cover AI server production, data centres, and grid infrastructure such as transformers. The appeal follows an October 27th letter to the White House requesting broader eligibility for the Advanced Manufacturing Investment Credit (AMIC). Altman stressed that the tax incentive is distinct from loan guarantees, which OpenAI has discussed for chip-factory support, not data centres. OpenAI said it will invest roughly US$1.4 trillion in AI-compute infrastructure over eight years. The push highlights how infrastructure bottlenecks now shape the race for AI dominance and how policy is being asked to keep pace with the scale of investment.
