OpenAI to Build Own AI Chips with Broadcom
Anime & AI News

The Financial Times reports that OpenAI will debut its first in-house AI chip in 2026, in collaboration with Broadcom, and will use it internally rather than selling it. Reuters could not verify the report, and OpenAI and Broadcom did not immediately comment. OpenAI’s computing needs are substantial, and it has pursued diversification and cost control, previously collaborating with Broadcom and TSMC while utilizing AMD alongside Nvidia. Earlier Reuters reporting indicated that OpenAI aimed to reduce its reliance on Nvidia, with a first design expected to be sent to TSMC for fabrication. Broadcom CEO Hock Tan said AI revenue growth for fiscal 2026 is expected to improve significantly after securing more than $10 billion in AI infrastructure orders from a new, unnamed customer with a firm order. OpenAI’s move mirrors Google, Amazon, and Meta.
