More U.S. Law Schools Make AI Training Mandatory

AI training is becoming mandatory at an increasing number of U.S. law schools, reflecting a shift from treating the technology as a novelty to recognizing it as a vital legal skill. Fordham Law, Arizona State, Stetson, and others have introduced AI-focused orientation sessions. At the same time, schools such as Suffolk and Washington University in St. Louis are now incorporating AI instruction into their required legal writing and research courses. Quinnipiac launched a one-credit, mandatory AI course for first-year students, responding to employer demand for graduates who are familiar with emerging tools. Programs emphasize responsible use, teaching students to identify AI-generated “hallucinations,” verify outputs, and understand the associated ethical risks. Educators emphasize that future lawyers must adapt quickly to evolving technologies to remain competitive, as AI is reshaping how legal services are delivered.
