U.S. Government Agencies Can Use Meta AI Model Llama

The U.S. government has approved Meta’s artificial intelligence system Llama for use by federal agencies, the General Services Administration (GSA) announced. The move aligns with the Trump administration’s push to integrate commercial AI into government operations. Llama, a large language model capable of handling text, images, audio, and video, will be added to the GSA’s list of vetted tools, ensuring compliance with security and legal standards. Federal agencies can now use Llama for tasks such as accelerating contract reviews and resolving IT issues. The GSA has recently approved AI systems from Amazon, Microsoft, Google, Anthropic, and OpenAI, with vendors offering steep discounts to meet requirements. Officials emphasized that the goal is to strengthen national capabilities, not curry political favor.
