Lionsgate’s Ambitious AI Plan Hits Major Hurdles

Lionsgate’s ambitious plan to use AI in filmmaking, including a claim it could remake a John Wick movie as an anime in three hours, has hit major hurdles. A year after partnering with Runway to train a model on its film library, the studio found the technology far from ready. Limited training data (Lionsgate’s catalog was deemed “too small” to train an AI movie model) and legal concerns over IP and actors’ rights have stalled the effort. This setback illustrates the challenges of embracing AI in entertainment and now serves as a cautionary tale for Hollywood. Other industries, from fast food to finance, have similarly backpedaled on early AI experiments, highlighting the risks of rushing into unproven AI.
