Cohere Secures $500 Million Funding Round

Canadian AI startup Cohere has been valued at $6.8 billion after raising $500 million in a funding round led by Radical Ventures and Inovia Capital, with backing from Nvidia, AMD Ventures, Salesforce Ventures, and PSP Investments. Unlike firms like OpenAI and Meta, which focus on general-purpose AI, Cohere develops enterprise-specific models, including its recently launched command vision model and North, a ChatGPT-style tool for knowledge workers. The company also appointed Joelle Pineau, former head of AI Research at Meta, as chief AI officer, and Francois Chadwick, formerly of Uber and Shield AI, as CFO. Cohere said it will use the funds to expand globally and advance secure, agentic AI for businesses and governments.
