Andrew Lloyd Webber Partners for Anime Opportunities

LW Entertainment, formerly Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Really Useful Group, has partnered with Qubic Pictures to develop an anime adaptation of The Phantom of the Opera musical. Qubic founder Justin Leach, known for Star Wars: Visions, Eden, and Leviathan, will co-lead the project. Leach described it as a rare chance to merge the grandeur of musical theatre with Japanese animation, aiming for a timeless, globally resonant work. This collaboration is part of a broader slate of film and TV projects based on Webber’s musicals. Phantom debuted in London’s West End in 1986 and on Broadway in 1988, becoming one of the world’s most successful productions. It adapts Gaston Leroux’s 1909–1910 novel and later inspired the 2010 sequel Love Never Dies.
