Is Allowing Children to Interact With AI Wrong?
Anime & AI News

Parents are increasingly allowing young children to interact with generative AI, raising concerns about creativity, safety, and development. Some see benefits: AI can spin personalized stories, turn family photos into coloring books, or role-play as astronauts, sparking wonder and imaginative play. Others worry children may confuse AI with real people, forming attachments or believing fabrications like “monster-fire trucks” exist. Experts warn that large language models (LLMs) only simulate empathy, potentially exploiting children’s emotions. Research suggests kids often place AI in a gray zone between toys and living beings, complicating trust. While startups push AI-powered toys and storytelling devices, critics fear homogenized creativity and hidden risks. The debate echoes earlier anxieties over radio, TV, and tablets, but with higher stakes given AI’s lifelike interactivity.
