Rivian Plans to Bring Third-Party AI Agents Into Its Cars
Anime & AI News
Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe says the electric vehicle maker wants to support third-party AI agents within its in-car software, building on a voice assistant already available to drivers and passengers. The company’s existing framework routes requests between on-device and cloud models, allowing people to control comfort settings, obtain information and access services such as Google Calendar. Scaringe suggested that future integrations could connect a driver’s wider assistant conversations to the vehicle for more personalised help. He stressed that autonomous agents would not control safety-critical functions, including steering and braking. Integrating models from outside AI developers will require technical coordination and additional safeguards. Rivian expects to discuss its plans further at an AI and Autonomy Day event in December.
