Mistral Raises €3B for Sovereign AI Expansion

French AI company Mistral has raised 3 billion euros at a post-money valuation above 21 billion euros in a Series D led by Samsung Electronics, with Scaleup Europe Fund and PSG Equity as co-leads. Mistral says the financing will expand compute capacity, infrastructure, commercial growth and international operations. The company is increasingly positioning itself around sovereign AI, offering governments and corporations more control over where data is processed and which models they use. It has also begun hosting third-party open-weight models and plans major European compute expansion. The round includes European, Asian and American investors, including Nvidia, Salesforce Ventures, BlackRock and Andreessen Horowitz. Mistral says it now operates in 20 countries and continues frontier research alongside its infrastructure and enterprise services strategy.
